8/31/93 ********************************************************************************************** MAINTENANCE RELEASE NOTES HELP.DOT File Date: 9/03/93 File Size: 81594 ********************************************************************************************** This maintenance release fixes several minor bugs in HELP.DOT 1. In certain cases the HelpCompile macro would incorrectly return a message that said that the .HPJ file couldn't be found, even though it was in the proper directory. 2. On certain monitors at various resolutions some of the labels on the dialog boxes were truncated. I've attempted to AutoSize the labels and this problem should be fixed. 3. A couple of the dialog boxes were too large for those running in 640x480 VGA mode. I've reduced the size of the dialog boxes, made them more lucid. 4. Those who had their own custom toolbar set were having their bitmap files overwritten. In this maintenance release I've gone back to using standard toolbar bitmaps supplied internally by WinWord. 5. The toolbar has been simplified and many of the less frequently used functions have been moved onto menus. 6. Your help compiler doesn't have to be named HCP.EXE. In the initial release version the installation routine allowed you to enter any name you wanted for the compiler, but the HelpCompile macro would only run HCP.EXE. This maintenance release also includes several additional features. 1. The program now adjusts its behavior in the presence of SHARE.EXE if you notify it that SHARE.EXE will be running when you ran the installation macro. --- You can take advantage of this feature by running the HelpConfigure macro and setting the proper SHARE option button. 2. The program now allows you to toggle back and forth between the default toolbar for the HELP.DOT template and the toolbar you were using when you fired it up! --- If you like the concept of having multiple, configurable and swappable WinWord toolbars; just like AmiPro, take a look at my template called TBARLIB.DOT, available in WinShare, progmsa and other CIS forums near you! 3. Your source .RTF file is now saved automatically prior to compiling. 4. The footnote macros have been consolidated into two: the HelpFootnoteEntry is for entering single footnotes. The HelpLinksandFootnotes handles both links and footnotes. Both macros recall the previous operation and, when called again, will be set to your previous entry. This expedites things nicely. WHEN YOU FIND BUGS WITH THIS MAINTENANCE RELEASE - and I'm sure there will be some! - PLEASE LET ME KNOW SO I CAN FIX IT! MANY OF YOU HAVE POINTED OUT VARIOUS PROBLEMS AND MADE IMPORTANT SUGGESTIONS. HELP.DOT IS BECOMING VERY ROBUST AND USEFUL SOFTWARE --- THANKS TO YOU!!!! ********************************************************************************************** IN THE WORKS ********************************************************************************************** I'm working on the next version of HELPER.EXE. Here's what I'm working on right now. 1. Convert .DOC files to .RTF files suitable for making .HLP files Based upon the use of Styles and Bookmarks, this macro will 'massage' .DOC files into suitable form for feeding to the help compiler. 2. Adding Help macro buttons to the [CONFIG] section This will let you 'point and shoot' at the help macro buttons you want to include. This will let you add Prev, Next buttons, for example. You could have a "Trouble!" button that will take the user to the Troubleshooting section, a "Register" button that will tell them how to register. 3. Send me your ideas!
